Direct DNA sequencing from colonies:

• It is possible to deliver the samples in form of colonies on agar plates or in saturated liquid cultures. The colony sequencing service includes picking of the colonies, DNA amplification, and sequencing according to our protocols. Forward and reverse sequencing will be carried out. We either use direct colony PCR protocols or plasmid preps, depending on the desired speed and quality of the results. Direct colony PCR is very fast and enables us to deliver the results very quickly (we can plan experiments with the customer in order to deliver the results within one single day). In contrast, preps are slower but more accurate due to overnight cultures. Therefore, we let the customer choose which method is best suited to his needs.

• Advantages of this method:
  Labwork is greatly reduced because time consuming steps do not need to be carried out anymore.
  All the reagents are included in the price, which reduces costs.
  For comfort, primers can be provided by the customer or chosen from our standard primer list.
  Due to the consistency of the method, billing will include only the colonies yielding good sequencing results (at least 400 bp). This allows customers to exactly plan how much an experiment could cost.

• Potential Application fields:
  All kinds of projects needing DNA sequencing from colonies but with no need to process the DNA any further.
  Typical examples include microsatellite screening, mutation analysis, EST Sequencing, and shotgun sequencing.
  

• Conditions:
  Due to automatic processing we are only able to accept orders concerning multiples of 8 colonies.
  Prices include everything from colony picking to sequencing (forward and reverse).
  Because of conditions-testing the results are delivered after 2 days at the most.
