Software Tools
Customers often ask us about which software they should use to
accomplish specific tasks, from basic trace file viewing to assembly
of multiple sequencing reads. This page describes some of our favourite
tools we use in our molecular biology work. Please notice that
the list is by no means meant to be exhaustive and that its use is
subject to our
terms and conditions.
Finch TV
Description:
Finch TV is by far the best and handiest basic trace file viewer available.
If you need a quick and efficient tool to visualise and edit your traces,
this program is for you. It is free, small and very easy to use and it can
display all trace information you might need for troubleshooting. You can
also perform BLAST searches with a sequence directly from the trace file.
Geospiza Inc. now requires you to register before downloading.
Sequence Scanner
Description:
Sequence scanner is a more advanced trace file viewer and is very helpful because
of its excellent reporting features. This makes it a great tool for sequencing
quality control. Since it can align raw data with analysed data it is also a
great tool for editing and manual sequence correction. Sequence Scanner is a
must have if you need to view, edit and manage many trace files at once or if
you order high throughput (whole micro plate) sequencing. The software is
free but you have to register before downloading.
Staden Package
Description:
The king of molecular biology software. Our favourite program suite
for trace assembly and mutation detection. It is extremely flexible,
powerful and fast. It includes database features that enable management
of any amount of trace files from everyday sequencing to complete genome
projects. It can be run through an interface as well as in batch mode for
very complex assembly tasks. The Staden Package is truly a must have for
bioinformatics power users. Get it if you need a free professional
assembly software of highest quality.
